Trust and safety

How we vet checkers, protect your money and handle problems.

How we vet checkers

  1. Identity check. Government ID and a live selfie, verified before any paid work.
  2. Profile review. We review each checker's experience in travel, hospitality or property.
  3. Trial assignment. New checkers complete a practice report reviewed by our team.
  4. Ongoing quality. Traveller ratings and report reviews. Checkers who fall below standard are removed.

How we protect your money

Payments are processed by our payment provider and held until you approve your report. We never ask you to pay by bank transfer, and a checker will never ask you for money directly. If anyone does, report it to us.

Your safety and privacy

Checkers see only the information they need to visit the property. Your contact details stay inside the platform. We don't share reports with hosts or booking platforms.

Checker safety

Checkers can decline any job, never have to enter a property they feel unsafe in, and can end a visit at any time. They share their live location with us during visits if they choose.

Spotting scams on your own

Warning signs in any listing: a price far below similar places, pressure to pay quickly, requests to pay by bank transfer or to move off the booking platform, and a host who won't allow a video call or a visit. Read our guide to rental scams abroad and the holiday rental checklist.

Report a problem

Email contact@checkerist.com with the subject "Safety". If you think you've been defrauded, also report it to Action Fraud (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) or Police Scotland, and contact your bank straight away.
