Terms of service
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you use checkerist.com and when you book a check through it. "Checkerist", "we" and "us" mean the operator of checkerist.com. You can contact us at contact@checkerist.com. By booking a check you agree to these terms, our payment and escrow terms and our refund policy.
2. What we do
Checkerist is a marketplace. We connect travellers who want a property checked with independent local checkers who carry out the visit. Checkers are not our employees. We set the standards for reports, vet checkers, handle payment and help resolve problems.
3. What a check is, and isn't
A check is an independent visual inspection of a property on a specific date, recorded in photos, video and a written report. It is not a structural survey, a legal title search, a safety certification, or a guarantee that a host will honour your booking. A report describes what the checker saw at the time of the visit.
4. Booking a check
- You must be 18 or over and give accurate information about the property and what you want checked.
- A booking is confirmed when a checker accepts it and your payment is authorised.
- Delivery times are targets. We'll tell you promptly if a target can't be met.
- Access to the inside of a property depends on the host. If the host refuses access, the checker will complete an exterior check and tell you.
5. Your responsibilities
Don't ask a checker to do anything unlawful, unsafe or outside the agreed check, to enter a property without permission, or to deal with you outside the platform. Use reports for your own booking decisions. Don't publish reports in a way that identifies private individuals.
6. Price and payment
Each checker sets their own price. You see a starting price on the checker's profile, and the checker confirms the final price for your property before you pay. Prices include any VAT that applies. Payment is held under our payment and escrow terms and released to the checker when you approve the report or the review period ends.
7. Cancellations and refunds
See our refund policy. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
8. Our liability
We take reasonable care in vetting checkers and running the platform. We are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our negligence. We are not responsible for a host's or booking platform's actions, for the condition of a property after the check, or for decisions you make based on a report beyond what a reasonable inspection on the day would show. Our total liability for any check is limited to the price you paid for it, except where the law doesn't allow us to limit it, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
9. Complaints
If something goes wrong, email contact@checkerist.com. We aim to reply within one working day and resolve complaints within 14 days.
10. Changes and law
We may update these terms. The version in force when you book applies to that booking. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
